Top 49ers News

  • 49ers' Brandon Allen: Middling results in spot-start

Allen completed 17 of 29 pass attempts for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception while rushing twice for five yards and losing a fumble in Sunday's blowout loss to Green Bay.

Allen was asked to step in for injured starter Brock Purdy (shoulder) on Sunday, and the results were on par for a backup quarterback playing in a hostile environment against a contending franchise. The 32-year-old Allen led the offense to just one touchdown while being responsible for two turnovers on the day. It sounds like Purdy's injury may cost the star quarterback only this one game, which would push Allen back to the No. 2 role when San Francisco visits Buffalo next Sunday.

  • 49ers' Jauan Jennings: Gains 40 yards with backup QB

Jennings caught five of seven targets for 40 yards in Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Packers.

The 49ers were without starting quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder) on Sunday, limiting the output of all skill-position players not named George Kittle in a blowout loss to Green Bay. Jennings actually led the team's wideouts with his modest production, but it still left much to be desired based on his increased production in 2024. The four-year veteran will carry a 47-628-4 receiving line into next Sunday's road tilt against the Bills.

  • 49ers' Deebo Samuel: Struggles continue with backup QB

Samuel had just one reception for 21 yards off four targets in Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Packers.

Samuel was already in a midseason slump entering Sunday's loss, but a backup quarterback under center made a bounce-back effort less likely. The dual-threat superstar also failed to record a rushing attempt for the first time in a full game this season. Samuel has underperformed this season with just 590 combined yards and two total touchdowns through 10 games. Brock Purdy's (shoulder) potential return in Week 13 would boost Samuel's projections heading into a tough road matchup in Buffalo next Sunday.

  • 49ers' Christian McCaffrey: Struggles sans star QB

McCaffrey rushed 11 times for 31 yards and lost one fumble while catching three of four targets for 37 yards in Sunday's 38-10 loss to Green Bay.

The 49ers were without starting quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder) on Sunday, which allowed the opposition to key in on McCaffrey's 14 touches. The 28-year-old also coughed up his first fumble of the campaign, adding insult to injury for his fantasy managers' box scores. Purdy's injury isn't considered serious, which bodes well for his availability and McCaffrey's point potential on the road against the Bills next Sunday.

  • 49ers' Aaron Banks: Concussed in Week 12 loss

Banks suffered a concussion in Sunday's loss to the Packers, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

He'll now have to pass through the league's concussion protocol if he wants a chance to play next Sunday against Buffalo. Spencer Burford would presumably get the start against the Bills if Banks can't gain clearance over the next week.

  • 49ers' George Kittle: Returns with authority

Kittle (hamstring) caught all six of his targets for 82 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 38-10 loss to Green Bay.

Kittle returned from a one-game absence to find his quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder) missing in action. The 31-year-old Kittle made the most of his opportunities Sunday, producing his second three-game scoring streak this season. The star tight end is up to 49 receptions for 642 yards and eight touchdowns over nine active games. Kittle would benefit greatly from the return of Purdy should the signal-caller heal up ahead of next Sunday's tilt against the Bills.

  • 49ers' Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles: Won't return Sunday

Flannigan-Fowles (knee) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Packers, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports.

Flannigan-Fowles will not return to Sunday's game after injuring his knee in the third quarter. Dee Winters will fill in for Flannigan-Fowles at linebacker alongside Fred Warner and De'Vondre Campbell.

  • 49ers' Renardo Green: Leaves game with neck injury

Green (neck) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Packers, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports.

Green logged five tackles (four solo) before suffering a neck injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game. While he's sidelined, Nick McCloud and Rock Ya-Sin will serve as the rotational outside corners across starter Isaac Yiadom.

  • 49ers' Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles: Questionable to return

Flannigan-Fowles (knee) is questionable to return to Sunday's matchup versus the Packers.

Flannigan-Fowles got hurt in the third quarter of Sunday's matchup, leaving his status for the rest of the game up in the air. With Flannigan-Fowles sidelined, Dee Winters is now in at linebacker in his place.

  • 49ers' Jordan Elliott: Ruled out Sunday

Elliot (concussion) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game versus Green Bay, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Elliott will not return to the game after suffering a concussion during the first half. In his absence, Kalia Davis and Evan Anderson should see increased playing time.

  • 49ers' Jordan Elliott: May have head injury

Elliott is being evaluated for a concussion and is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Packers, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports.

While Elliott gets examined, Kalia Davis and Evan Anderson will see an uptick in snaps at defensive tackle alongside starter Maliek Collins.

  • 49ers' Trent Williams: Inactive for Week 12

Williams (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Packers, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

There were conflicting reports on whether Williams would be able to play through an ankle injury that kept him out of practice all week, but Williams will be sidelined for Sunday's contest. Jaylon Moore is expected to start at left tackle in Williams' absence, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com.

  • 49ers' Trent Williams: Uphill battle to play Week 12

Williams (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Packers, but he's viewed as a true game-time decision and may be facing an "uphill battle" to play, Jay Glazer reported on "Fox NFL Sunday."

Glazer's report conflicts with one earlier from Adam Schefter of ESPN, who suggested that the Niners were optimistic that Williams is going to be able to play. Official word on Williams' status will arrive when San Francisco posts its inactive list 90 minutes ahead of the 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.
