Islanders' Simon Holmstrom: Collects power-play assist
Holmstrom provided a power-play assist in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Blues.
Holmstrom has two goals and three assists over his last seven outings. The 23-year-old winger had the secondary helper on Brock Nelson's second-period tally Saturday. Through 21 contests, Holmstrom is at 10 points (three on the power play), 19 shots on net, 14 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating. He's seeing steady time in a third-line role and on the second power-play unit, giving him some fantasy appeal in deeper formats with a focus on offense.

Islanders' Maxim Tsyplakov: Nabs power-play helper
Tsyplakov registered a power-play assist, three shots on goal, two hits and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Blues.
Tsyplakov ended a four-game point drought when he set up Brock Nelson's second-period tally. While he's now 10 games removed from his last goal, Tsyplakov has four assists and 13 shots in that span, so he's getting his looks. The second-line winger is up to two goals, nine assists (two on the power play), 29 shots on net, 58 hits, 16 PIM and a plus-4 rating through his first 21 NHL outings.

Islanders' Brock Nelson: In on all three goals in win
Nelson scored a power-play goal on four shots, added two assists and went plus-2 in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Blues.
Nelson's second-period tally was the game-winner, and he also set up linemate Kyle Palmieri's two goals. This was Nelson's first multi-point effort since Oct. 25, and his third such game of the campaign. The 33-year-old center is up to eight tallies, five assists, 64 shots on net and a plus-5 rating over 21 appearances in a second-line role. He's right on track for a fourth straight 30-goal campaign, though a drop in his assist totals could see him struggle to reach the 50-point mark without a turnaround. That said, his goal was his first power-play point of the year, so he's due for some improvement in that area.

Islanders' Kyle Palmieri: Opens and closes scoring Saturday
Palmieri scored two goals on four shots, including one into an empty net, in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Blues.
Palmieri stepped up after the Islanders suffered consecutive 2-1 defeats, which were both games where he was held off the scoresheet. He tallied late in the first period and again in the final minute of the third for his fifth multi-point effort and first multi-goal game of the season. Palmieri is up to nine tallies, 18 points, 53 shots on net and a plus-4 rating through 21 contests overall while holding steady in a second-line role.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Ends skid Saturday
Sorokin stopped 24 of 25 shots in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Blues.
Sorokin was only bested by a Jake Neighbours power-play tally early in the third period. This was Sorokin's first win in five outings -- he had allowed 13 goals while going 0-2-2 over his last four starts. For the season, the 29-year-old is at a 5-5-3 record with a 2.52 GAA and a .917 save percentage. The Islanders' lack of offense is a concern, but Sorokin should at least offer good ratios. The Islanders face the Red Wings on Monday after losing 2-1 in Detroit on Thursday, with Sorokin stopping 29 of 31 shots in that outing.

Sorokin will defend the home crease versus St. Louis on Saturday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Sorokin was stellar against the Red Wings on Thursday, stopping 29 shots, but was saddled with the 2-1 loss. He is 0-2-2 in his last four starts, giving the 29-year-old a 4-5-3 record with a 2.64 GAA and a .914 save percentage. St. Louis sits 29th in the league with 2.43 goals per game.

Islanders' Simon Holmstrom: Scores lone goal in loss
Holmstrom scored a goal and blocked two shots in Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Red Wings.
Holmstrom's been good in November, though he had been held off the scoresheet in the previous two contests. He was able to redirect a Scott Mayfield attempt in at 5:51 of the first period for the opening goal. Holmstrom has nine points over 20 outings this season, with seven of those points coming across 10 games in November. He's added 19 shots on net, 14 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating while filling a third-line role in 2024-25.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Win slips away late
Sorokin turned aside 29 shots in Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Red Wings.
The 29-year-old goalie seemed headed for his first shutout of the season as the Islanders clung to a 1-0 lead with five minutes left in the third period. The offense's inability to provide some insurance for Sorokin proved costly, however, as Jonatan Berggren tied it up on an odd-man rush before Lucas Raymond snapped home the winner with only 52 seconds left. Sorokin is 0-2-2 over his last four starts with a 3.22 GAA and .902 save percentage, but he's also received just nine goals of support over that stretch. In fact, he's 4-0-0 this season when the Isles score at least four goals for him, and 0-5-3 when they don't.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Facing Red Wings
Sorokin will patrol the visiting crease in Detroit on Thursday, according to Andrew Gross of Newsday.
Sorokin got off to a great start this season, going 2-2-1 with a 1.80 GAA and a .932 save percentage over his first five appearances. He has faltered since then, as he is 2-2-2 with a 3.43 GAA and a .900 save percentage across his last six contests. Sorokin will face the Red Wings, who are tied for 29th overall in scoring with 46 goals in 18 games (2.56 goals per game).

Islanders' Dennis Cholowski: Picks up helper
Cholowski provided an assist, two shots on goal and three blocked shots in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Flames.
This was Cholowski's second game in a row with an assist. He's earned three points over his last five outings and has a total of two goals and two helpers through 11 appearances. The 26-year-old has added seven shots on net, 10 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating while seeing limited usage on the third pairing. It looks like Cholowski has gained the edge over Grant Hutton and Travis Mitchell for playing time even with Alexander Romanov back in the lineup.

Islanders' Scott Mayfield: Contributes helper Tuesday
Mayfield logged an assist, two hits, two blocked shots and two PIM in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Flames.
Mayfield has collected three points and a plus-7 rating over his last six games. The defenseman is up to one goal, three assists, a plus-8 rating, 16 shots on net, 17 PIM, 29 blocked shots and 33 hits through 19 outings overall. Mayfield saw just 17:02 of ice time Tuesday since Alexander Romanov returned to the lineup in a top-four role -- this was Mayfield's first game under the 20-minute mark since the start of November.

Islanders' Pierre Engvall: Goals in three straight games
Engvall scored a goal on three shots in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Flames.
Engvall opened the scoring at 1:32 of the second period. The winger has scored in three straight games, a span that accounts for all of his goals this season. He's added two assists, 25 shots on net and a plus-1 rating through 11 appearances. Engvall is gaining confidence as he continues to hold onto a third-line assignment.

Islanders' Semyon Varlamov: Strong in shootout loss
Varlamov surrendered one goal on 31 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Flames.
Varlamov couldn't win a third straight start, but he has given up no more than two goals in his last four outings. The 36-year-old was bested by Rasmus Andersson on a power-play tally in the third period, and the Flames also converted two of their three shootout attempts. Varlamov is down to a 3-3-2 record with a 2.60 GAA and a .903 save percentage over eight starts. He continues to back up Ilya Sorokin, but Varlamov has gotten a start roughly once a week -- that's enough action to be worth a look in fantasy. The Islanders' five-game road trip ends Thursday in a matchup with the Red Wings.
