  • Maple Leafs' Fraser Minten: Posts power-play helper

Minten logged a power-play assist in Sunday's 3-2 win over Utah.

Minten has a goal and an assist over his first two NHL appearances this season. He didn't have any points over his first four career games in 2023-24. The 20-year-old is getting a chance to play as injuries have piled up among Toronto's forwards. He's filling a third-line role, but he could be headed back to AHL Toronto once Auston Matthews (upper body) or Max Domi (lower body) can return.

  • Maple Leafs' Chris Tanev: Pockets helper in win

Tanev notched an assist in Sunday's 3-2 win over Utah.

Tanev snapped a six-game point drought with a secondary helper on Mitch Marner's first goal of the game. During the slump on offense, Tanev racked up 19 blocked shots. The defenseman has four helpers, 68 blocks, 10 shots on net, 10 PIM and a plus-4 rating while serving in a shutdown role on the second pairing.

  • Maple Leafs' John Tavares: Impresses in multiple ways

Tavares logged an assist, fired a game-high eight shots on net, logged three hits and won 18 of 23 faceoffs in Sunday's 3-2 win over Utah.

Tavares has four goals and five assists over his last seven outings during a steady run of offense. He set season highs with the eight shots and 18 faceoff wins, and his 78.3 percent win rate at the dot was his highest mark this season. The center has once again been excellent on faceoffs in 2024-25, winning 59.7 percent of them so far. He's contributed nine goals, 11 helpers, 72 shots, 25 hits and a plus-7 rating over 20 appearances. Rumors of his downfall on offense appear to have been exaggerated.

  • Maple Leafs' William Nylander: One of each in Sunday's win

Nylander scored a goal on five shots and added a power-play assist in Sunday's 3-2 win over Utah.

Nylander has posted a stat line of one goal and one assist in four of his last six outings, and he's had at least one power-play point in each of those instances. The 28-year-old forward is in the midst of another strong season in a top-six role for Toronto. He's compiled 14 goals, 10 helpers, 11 power-play points, 76 shots on net and a plus-1 rating over 21 appearances. His 18.4 shooting percentage is a bit lofty, but Nylander is a two-time 40-goal scorer, so he should continue to finish at a high rate even if his efficiency slips a bit.

  • Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner: Scores twice in win

Marner scored two goals on four shots in Sunday's 3-2 win over Utah.

Marner tied the game at 1-1 at 5:15 of the second period and added a power-play tally just over four minutes later. It's been a remarkable November for Marner, who has earned two points in seven of his last eight games, the lone exception being a 3-0 shutout loss to the Senators on Nov. 12. The 27-year-old winger is up to eight goals, 28 points (12 on the power play), 55 shots on net and a plus-6 rating through 21 appearances. At the quarter mark, he's on pace to earn the first 100-point campaign of his career.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Wins fourth straight start

Woll stopped 23 of 25 shots in Sunday's 3-2 win over Utah.

Woll has won four straight starts, allowing just six goals on 104 shots in that span. Utah had the first and last goals Sunday, but Toronto scored three times in the middle frame. The win improved Woll's overall numbers to 5-2-0 with a 2.00 GAA and a .921 save percentage through seven starts. The Maple Leafs are getting excellent play from both Woll and Anthony Stolarz this season, so this should ultimately shake out as a fairly even timeshare. A tough pair of road games are next on the schedule, as the Maple Leafs visit the Panthers on Wednesday and the Lightning on Saturday.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Back in net Sunday

Woll will get the start at home Saturday against Utah, Mark Masters of TSN reports.

The Leafs will turn to Woll again after the 26-year-old netminder posted a 31-save shutout against Vegas on Wednesday. Woll has won his last three starts, posting an impressive .949 save percentage in that span.

  • Maple Leafs' Max Domi: Not playing Sunday

Domi (lower body) has been ruled out of Sunday's game against Utah, according to David Alter of The Hockey News.

Domi will miss his second consecutive game as he sat out Wednesday against Vegas. He has been in a big scoring slump, with nary a point in his last 13 games. Domi could return to action as early as Wednesday in Florida.

  • Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews: Skates ahead of practice

Matthews (upper body) skated before Saturday's practice, Mark Masters of TSN reports.

Matthews had not been seen skating since Nov. 10, making this an encouraging development. He left before Saturday's practice started, which probably means he won't play in Sunday's tilt against Utah. Still, Matthews could suit up in Wednesday's matchup versus Florida. He has missed the last seven games. Matthews has five goals and 11 points in 13 contests this campaign.

  • Maple Leafs' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Back at practice Saturday

Ekman-Larsson (illness) returned to practice Saturday, per Mark Masters of TSN.

Ekman-Larsson missed Friday's practice due to an illness but should be available for Sunday's matchup against Utah. The veteran blueliner has one goal, eight points and a plus-2 rating through 20 games this season.

  • Maple Leafs' Matthew Knies: On injured reserve

Knies (upper body) was put on injured reserve Friday, retroactive to Nov. 20.

Knies has eight goals and 12 points over 20 appearances in 2024-25. The Maple Leafs were already missing forwards Max Domi (lower body), Calle Jarnkrok (groin), David Kampf (lower body), Max Pacioretty (lower body), Ryan Reaves (suspension) and, of course, Auston Matthews (upper body), so Toronto is looking rather thin up front. Until some of those players start returning, Bobby McMann, Nicholas Robertson and Pontus Holmberg might be deployed regularly in a top-six capacity. Fraser Minten and Nikita Grebenkin also made their season and NHL debut, respectively, Wednesday and figure to be part of the third line until the Maple Leafs start getting healthy.

  • Maple Leafs' Alexander Nylander: Inks one-year deal

Nylander secured a one-year, $775,000 contract with Toronto on Friday.

Nylander earned his contract by racking up eight goals and four assists in 14 minor-league contests for AHL Toronto while on a minor-league-only deal. Selected by the Sabres with the eighth overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, the 26-year-old winger has failed to secure a long-term role at the NHL level, playing in just 121 NHL contests for Buffalo, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Columbus. In a corresponding move, the Leafs designated Matthew Knies (upper body) for injured reserve.

  • Maple Leafs' Matthew Knies: Not playing Sunday

Head coach Craig Berube said Friday that Knies (upper body) is improving but will not play Sunday versus Utah, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.

Knies left Wednesday's game versus Vegas after taking a big hit, courtesy of Zach Whitecloud. The 22-year-old Knies has eight goals and 12 points in 20 games this season. It's not yet clear when the Maple Leafs expect him to return, but his next chance to do so will be Wednesday against Florida.

  • Maple Leafs' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Misses practice Friday

Ekman-Larsson missed practice Friday with an illness.

The Maple Leafs get a rare Saturday off as they do not play again until Sunday versus Utah. That will give Ekman-Larsson an extra day to get healthy. Ekman-Larsson has been a rock on the Toronto blue line and has chipped in with a goal and seven assists in 20 games. He is on a two-game point streak heading into action Sunday. Consider him day-to-day at this point. If he is unable to go, look for Jani Hakanpaa to enter the lineup.

  • Maple Leafs' Philippe Myers: Recalled from conditioning stint

Myers was recalled from a conditioning loan from AHL Toronto on Friday.

Myers played in only one game with the Maple Leafs before he was sent to the minors Saturday. Myers saw action in three games and had five shots on goal and four PIM with nary a point. He will likely remain as the Maple Leafs' seventh defenseman, barring any injuries.

  • Maple Leafs' Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Bags apple Wednesday

Ekman-Larsson produced an assist, two PIM and three blocked shots in Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Golden Knights.

Ekman-Larsson has a helper in back-to-back contests following an eight-game slump. He was moved back to the first pairing alongside Morgan Rielly for Wednesday's game after spending some time lower in the lineup. Ekman-Larsson has eight points, 38 shots on net, 31 hits, 23 blocked shots, 20 PIM and a plus-2 rating over 20 appearances. Fantasy managers may be willing to ride through streaky offense since he plays on a strong team and offers category coverage.

  • Maple Leafs' Pontus Holmberg: Deposits empty-netter

Holmberg scored an empty-net goal and blocked three shots in Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Golden Knights.

This was one of Holmberg's best efforts of the year, and he was rewarded with a season-high 17:40 of ice time. The 25-year-old forward has typically played in a more defensive role, but he was on the second line and stepped up to the challenge Wednesday. Overall, he has three points, 16 shots on net, 15 blocked shots, 15 PIM and a minus-5 rating over 18 appearances. He may be worth a look as a streaming option versus Utah on Sunday if Auston Matthews (upper body), Matthew Knies (upper body) and Max Domi (lower body) all remain out.

  • Maple Leafs' Matthew Knies: Still being evaluated

Head coach Craig Berube said Thursday that Knies (upper body) is still being evaluated but is "feeling okay," Dave McCarthy of NHL.com reports.

Knies exited Wednesday's game against the Golden Knights due to an upper-body injury, and the severity of the issue isn't yet known. However, it's encouraging that the 22-year-old was feeling better a day after sustaining his injury, and he should be considered day-to-day for now. Whether he'll be available for Sunday's game against Utah remains to be seen.
